Liana

Location - 324 Columbus Ave (near 75th St)

Going on its 29th year in the same location, Liana is a neighborhood staple that has been clothing the Upper West Side for generations.  Everything from cocktail dresses and blouses to layering tees and accessories, this boutique is filled with both trendy items and mature work staples.  It's definitely a spot where any age, occasion, or budget can find something.

The friendly staff is eager to help navigate through the numerous brands in the large clothing collection. The lengthy list includes Susana Monaco, Three Dots, Weston Wear, Michael Stars, Velvet, Theory, Elie Tahari, Vince, Rachel Roy, Trina Turk, 525 America, and Michael Kors. Clothing prices range from $40-$500+, with a significant amount under $200. Stock up on everyday knit and jersey basics in an array of colors for $50-$100, or find a unique piece for a special occasion with cocktail dresses ranging from $200-$500. Favorites include 525 America's knit military-inspired jacket for $158, and Trina Turk's colorful tunics for $248.

The accessories are curated to go along with any outfit, including casual Love Quotes scarves for $88, large leather bags for $140-$400, and suede and leather belts for $50-$200. The jewelry is perfect for weddings and gifts and ranges from $50-$200. You can also find necessities such as Hanky Panky, Spanx, and Calvin Klein Tights.

Project No. 8

Location - 138 Division St (between Orchard & Ludlow St)

 Displaying a wide range of emerging contemporary womenswear and accessories designers, Project No. 8's European and American collection makes one desire the modern cuts and unique fabrics the instant one walks inside. Project No. 8's minimalist interior allows the focus to stay on the standout collections and focus on the handmade detailing and artistry.

The clothing includes pieces from Maison Martin Margiela from Paris, deconstructed products from Correll Correll, lingerie from VPL, silk tanks by Sunshine & Shadow, beautiful printed knits by Christian Wijnants, and flowy dresses and blouses from Boudicca. Ranging from $100-$500+, most pieces are hard to find elsewhere and one-of-a-kind finds from emerging designers.

The beautiful jewelry and accessories would add a modern touch to any outfit. The jewelry ranges from $40-$500 and includes everything from oversized wood beaded bracelets to long metal layered necklaces.  Favorites include earrings from Saskia Diez and mohair and silver bracelets and necklaces from Stephanie Schneider. Shoes from Maison Martin Margiela and Hope include sneakers, leather boots, wedges, and heels. You can also find sunglasses, hats, scarves, and hair accessories.

Alskling

Location - 228 Columbus Ave (between 70th & 71st)

 Alskling, meaning "Darling" in Swedish, is a tiny boutique filled with brightly colored dresses, tops, and skirts created by Swedish designers and made in the United States. This neighborhood staple has been in the UWS for 17 years and has a sister store in Stockholm with the same romantic and feminine collections.

With new items arriving every Friday, there is huge selection to choose from in sizes petite-2x. Everything is under $250 including lacy tanks, ethereal tunics, and flowy print dresses. Fabric weight, patterns and color palettes are constantly changing with the seasons to reflect modern trends in classic romantic styles. Go-to slip dresses ($68) drape perfectly and come in a wide range of lengths from crop-tank to ankle in classic neutrals, polka dots, and florals. And not only is the feminine collection for women, but matching patterned skirts can be found for children for $39.

The perfect boutique for flowy romantic dresses and brightly colored staples, this Swedish spot doesn't disappoint with its whimsical collection with a flair for the theatrical.

The tranquil and soothing natural space of Pip-Squeak Chapeau is home to an all-natural collection that is light, airy, and easy to wear. Designer and owner Sveta Dresher began a collection of children's clothes and hats 7 years ago and has now opened a boutique including a women's line, home goods, and accessories.

Every piece in the store is made in Brooklyn with 100% natural yarns and fabrics including linen, cotton, hemp, and silk in flowing dresses, skirts, pants, and tops. The philosophy behind the collection is that no woman should be restricted by the fashions of today, but instead wear pieces that enhance one's life. The clothing ranges from $30-$300 and is beautifully minimal and can be worn by all ages. Meg Cohen Design Shop

Location - 59 Thompson Street (between Spring & Broome)

Home to some of the best cashmere goods in the city, Meg Cohen Design Shop is a friendly, airy boutique filled with accessories for all seasons and fun vintage oddities. The owner and designer, Meg, creates beautiful pieces in saturated colors in timeless patterns and styles that are made to last a lifetime.

Colorful cashmere fills the space in bright stripes, charming polka dots, and rich solids in the form of scarves, gloves, hats, and hoods. Cashmere scarves on sale can be found as low as $65 and regularly go up to $250, with most hovering around $150. A favorite are the lightweight polka dot scarves in vibrant colors ($135) that are a fun accessory to any outfit. The quality of cashmere is evident in the softness and durability of each product and is thick and cozy for winter, or light and airy for the warmer months. Not only are there multiple styles of scarves, but fingerless cashmere gloves are perfect for the change in season ($65), hoods ($90), and hats ($65-90).

A. Cheng

Location - 152 5th Avenue (near Douglass Street), Park Slope

A. Cheng is filled with feminine pieces with exceptional details in a comfortable and airy space. With cozy brick and pops of color, the atmosphere is home to owner Alice Cheng's own line of clothing as well as other whimsical designers and fun accessories.

Trench coats, floral tops, breezy dresses, and staple sweaters can be found in easy-to-wear styles for everyone's closet.  Clothing ranges from $50-$300 and includes pieces from Steven Alan, Demylee, Roberta Freymann, Paul & Joe, Twinkle by Wenlan, and Corey Lynn Calter.  The A. Cheng line is flawless with beautiful details, patterns and colors, with favorites including her jackets and pants that easily go from workday to night out.  Other great finds include a light tunic from Roberta Freymann for $116 and Demylee's cashmere smoky grey cardigan for $235.

Coclico

Location - 275 Mott St (between Houston & Prince)

Coclico is a beautiful open space filled with their own line of shoes, an expertly edited selection of cheerful clothes, and statement-making accessories.  The  incredibly friendly staff and amount of unique pieces stocked makes this boutique a must when shopping for everything from everyday sandals to a flirty evening dress.

The shoes are made from eco-friendly materials and are crafted for the utmost comfort without compromising style.  The Coclico Spring shoe line is inspired by the butterfly with intricate patterns and curved silhouettes.  The earthy color palette with splashes of gemstone hues can be found in the heels, sandals, and boots.  Fun summer flat sandals and heels made of high-quality leather range from $250-$450, and staple neutral boots range from $450-$600.  Mixed in with Coclico's own line are shoes from Esska, Argila, and Chi Mihara.

Intrigue

Intrigue is the perfect boutique to find on-trend pieces at great prices.  Filled with unique fashion brands and colorful leather bags, you're able to find anything from casual knitwear to embellished mini-dresses.

This cozy boutique is thoughtfully laid out, allowing you to easily go through the clothing while taking in shelves of accessories and bags.  Everything from flirty silk dresses, bright tunics, romantic blouses, patterned skirts, and structured jackets can be found from brands such as Interlud, Buqet, Csilla Somogyi, Collective Concepts, Jonesy, Tulle, and Scrapbook Originals.  The clothes ranges from a low $30 to $250, with most items below $150.  Great pieces include a purple tunic with studded shoulders ($68), staple black boyfriend blazer ($94), and a vivid yellow dress with sparkling embellishments ($245).

Darling

Darling is a boutique that lives up to its name, with window displays full of breezy dresses and an interior stocked to the ceiling with a mix of trendy pieces and vintage must-haves, you are sure to find something for every season. Piles of accessories fill every nook and make you feel you've stepped into a closet begging to play dress-up in. Hats, scarves and purses hang off mirrors, with colorful casual wear and trendy evening wear framing a table toppling with jewelry and accessories.

Great pieces for all body types can be found by Tulle, Luna, Autumn Cashmere, BB Dakota, Velvet, Kensie, Susanna Monaco, Max and Cleo, and Heartloom.  Dresses ranging from trendy minis to draping jersey can be found from $50-$300+ and tops from bohemian to tailored range from $30-$200.  In the winter months, they have a huge assortment of coats and jackets with everything from jewel-toned peacoats to fur-lined bombers ($70-$350).  Despite Darling's large stock of clothes, they out-do themselves with their abundance of accessories.  Scarves can be found piled and draped during all months of the year ($30-$150), as well as headbands, hats and purses, including rows of colorful clutches (around $80).  Jewelry in both gold and silver vintage and plastic trendy costume can be found hanging from decorative branches next to classic lingerie with feminine ruffles and lace.
