For over 20 years husband-and-wife duo Hal and Jillian Grano have been designing with canvas materials, and just this week they have opened Utility Canvas in the West Village. Their boutique is stocked with items proving the sturdiness and style that canvas possesses.
Filled with clothing, accessories, and bedding, Utility Canvas boutique can convert anyone into a canvas believer. It all began years ago with a design for a all-purpose canvas utility bag, and now has turned into a platform for versatile fashion and comfortable home goods. The products of Utility Canvas are quilted, dyed, and made with different canvas weights to create surprisingly soft materials that are incredibly sturdy and built to age beautifully.
The clothing is all made in NYC for men and women and ranges from $50-$150. The women’s clothing includes snap-closure shirts ($85), A-line skirts ($95), adorable printed dresses ($100-$125), and outerwear ($130-$150). The printed and pre-dyed garments come in a variety of colors and patterns, ranging from geometric stripes to printed owls and classic navy to bright lime green. Don’t miss their classic totes and shoulder bags that are perfect for carrying just about anything and range from $85-$112.
Some of our favorite pieces are in the bedding collection. We were shocked with how cute and soft the quilted canvas throw blankets and throw pillows are! They come in a variety of solids and prints and are thick, warm and would wear with age. The blankets range from $135-$145, and the throws pillows range from $54-$72.
Utility Canvas is a warm and friendly boutique where you will most likely run into the designers themselves. The colorful canvas collections are fun to browse and are easy additions to any wardrobe or home.
